hey guys
I hope you can help me fix my problem.
I reinstalled my High Sierra because my Windows Dual Boot crushed it. After removing my GT120 to use my Sapphire 580 Nitro I no longer get a Signal via Display Port. HDMI works fine. DisplayPort Adapter to HDMI works too. Only a direct connection via DisplayPort doesn’t work. I use a LG 21:9 FreeSync Display for gaming so I really need this Display Port connection.

Bit of a long shot but...

Did you try moving the DisplayPort cable to the other DisplayPort? My Sapphire RX 580 8GB Pulse does this too, after I've put the GT120 back in my system. Changing the cable from one port to the other seems to wake it up again.

I had some weird issues like that with the 580 (Pulse 8GB) when I first got it and was switching back and forth between the Mojave beta and my main drive (which was HS). I didn't have another GPU installed, so I assumed it was something weird about the Mojave beta. Or maybe SIP being disabled (which I had done for something). In any case, it stopped doing that during one of the later Mojave betas so I never bothered to troubleshoot it further.

That's good advice though--test all the card's outputs.

And try a PRAM reset too.

I think I'm having a similar issue with my Pulse RX580 8GB only with Windows 10. The card works fine in Mojave, all outputs work great, but if I reboot into Windows 10 I get nothing on the display until I remove and reinsert the Displayport cable. Same with DVI. HDMI seems to work fine. I actually thought it might be an issue with this individual card since it was an ex-mining card I got used on eBay, but I ordered the same exact card new from Amazon and it displays the same exact issue.

finally I did a fresh install of MacOS vis USB....
display is working again!
Was it a driver issue? I don't know. Thanks for you help folks!

this **** drives me crazy..
the update to 10.13.6 f**** it all up
I tried it two times. The issue comes back with this update and won't disappear with the latest Mojave.
Everything works fine with 10.13.5 so I will keep it like this. Maybe I will try it again with 10.14.3+

How can I hide the update to 10.13.6? macOS remembers me every day to update the OS

We're having the same issue with an MSI RX 580 4GB in a macpro4,1 flashed to macpro5,1. We just bought the MSI card and our system was already on 10.14.5. We found that the DisplayPort was not sending a signal to our Apple Cinema Display. Conversely, when we use the RX 580's HDMI port and send video to our Samsung Series 6 tv, everything works fine.

BillyBobBongo – we tried switching the DisplayPorts like you said, as our card has two, but the issue persists.

Tetsuka (or others) – have you tried using this card and its DisplayPort with any of the Catalina Developer Previews to see if the issue is corrected?

Finally, we noticed folks in a hackintosh forum with this issue seem to be able to correct it using Clover to change their configuration profile from imac17,2 to macpro6,1. I'm curious if we can adopt this fix for a non-Hackintosh.

tetsuka,

Read post #5.

I'm guessing that you did either a Combo or Supplemental 10.14.6 upgrade.

The FIRST full 10.14.6 release was 6.94 gb . . . .

then came the Supplemental -

then came the sleep problems & probably others.

. . . . . then . .. .

came the 6.05gb full 10.14.6 installer. I wonder why Apple released that ?

=====================================================

First I did a 100% clean 10.14..6 install to a spare SSD - with no 3rd. party apps - let it run for 2 days.

no problems at all.

Now I have re-installed my usual 3rd. party apps an still no problems.

Next I will CCC clone this working 10.14.6 to an HFS+ Samsung 970 EVO.

EDIT : I stopped using Combos since El Capitan; better to wait for the full, final release & then a 100% clean install.

Works for me.

Since my last post, we our Cinema Display is now working and with the MSI RX 580's DisplayPort. The issue we were having appears to be faulty hardware, specifically the LED Cinema Display's cable. In our setup, the Apple LED Cinema Display cable connects with a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort pigtail adapter that connects to the MSI RX 580's DisplayPort. After a few attempts at unseating and reseating the pigtail into the MSI RX 580, the Cinema Display suddenly flicked on without a need to touch software or drivers.

After this happened, we remembered this issue happening after we bought the Mac Pro, used, in July with the stock GT120 and without the pigtail adapter - we had to plug the Mini DisplayPort cable in to the GT120 a couple times before it flicked on. It appears our issue in this string is different than yours and seems to be with the Apple LED Cinema Display cable.

In response to your note about system updates. We've been using Combo updates and last night the sleep issue came up - we put the Mac Pro to sleep, the display flicked off, but the Mac Pro's light didn't pulsate indicating sleep and, if it was sleeping, it wouldn't wake back up.

I'll report back if we find more information, but for now, our issue appears to be a faulty display cable between the display and the pigtail adapter.
