Hey all. New poster here. Getting my 5,1 ready for Mojave and purchased the now standard Sapphire RX580. Brand new card. I installed the card, connected the dual mini 6pin to 8pin cable, closed everything up and powered it up. Everything works fine but there is one issue: the fan on the far rear of the card (near the rear of the macpro) is on maximum, all the time. It is so loud that the machine is not usable for me. It is not a mechanical fan issue. The fan is on max. Rebooting or shutting down does nothing. It's always on max. Anybody had this problem before? I searched around the forum and didn't see anything that fit my exact scenario. Appreciate any help.

Macpro 5,1, 96gb, dual x5690 12-core

If it's a new card, please get a replacement. Sounds like the card is faulty

Thanks. I pulled the card and put the 5770 back in. Silence :) I took a detailed look at the card and saw a bunch of stuff that looks odd. I pulled the fan shroud off just to get a better look. The heat sinks seemed to be bent on some and it looks as if the heat sync assembly was bent to get it to fit? I don't have another card to compare it to so don't know if their all that way. Attaching some pics. Looks like just bad QC. These are the fins NOT under the fan that is maxed but doesn't look right nonetheless. The box was unopened and fully sealed so this must have taken place during manufacturer.

looks like someone tried to read the ROM or flash the card with external eebrom programmer

Factory seals on the box and packaging weren't broken.... I know that doesn't mean much but regardless, its' pretty weird...

For those who read this in the future. I ordered a new card. It arrived and there were no bent fins anywhere. Plugged it in and it was absolutely dead silent with no issues.

ok that Sounds good. But I have the Problem with the Zero Fan Modus on the 580er i have 2 Monitors and the fans Starts and Stops After ca. 30 sec. So it stands out more as if the fans always turn slowly. Unfortunately I can't solve the problem because I don't want to operate just one monitor. Do you also have the problem or are you only using a monitor? On a Mac you cannot patch the Card.

It's not clear. If the fan goes off after 30 seconds, then what is the issue? I'm only using one monitor. So far, my fan never comes on.

His card is fine. However, dual monitor will make the GPU and VRAM stay at much higher clock speed even at idle. Which makes his card operate right at the range between the fan ON / OFF critical temperature.

And if his card’s fan is noisy enough, he will be able to hear the fan noise keep changing. Even that’s not loud, but can be very annoying.

This issue can be fixed by modifying the ROM (e.g. disable zero fan mode). However, this will also break the GOP, make his RX580 can not display boot screen via OpenCore.
