?'s about iMac Memory upgrade (gskill?)

I got a 27 inch iMac that is currently 1 generation behind. Its got the 3ghz dual core processor and 4GB of Ram that came with it.

I read the Applet documentation on the type of memory and just called my local Apple repair center for pricing. To max out the memory it going to cost $540 and to double it to 8GB it would cost $160.

I then went to new egg and typed in the right speed and type and found these:

G. Skill 4GB
G.Skill 2GB

I have heard good things about gSkill in the past and they have a ton of great reviews. Couple questions however:

  • Seems silly but these will fit right?
  • Is there any reason to stick with the "Apple" branded memmory?
  • My computer seems to be getting noticiablly slower when I have more and more windows open. This will help me out quite a bit right? Or is my bottle neck at the Dual core processor?
  • Any reccomendations on 8GB or should I go all out for the 16?
  • If I do go with the 8GB do I just need two sticks of 2GB or should I get rid of the factory sticks and stay with one kind/brand?

There was a link (somewhere) a few days ago for Kingston 1066 SODIMMs from buy.com for an 8GB memory kit for $119 (2x4GB). With shipping mine came to $136. I just installed them in my Late 2009 iMac 3.06 C2D. Blazing fast now with 12GB of RAM.

It took longer to look up how to do it than it took to install.

Kingston Kit:

KTA-MB1066K2/8G

Even though it's 1066, it's compatible with teh Apple 1067 SODIMMs.

Personally, I use memory from OWC. Great customer service and very helpful people.
I have seen where many people have commented about Apple's sensitivity to ram, so that sealed the deal for me. I am using an additional 4GB of OWC ram in my I3 27" and have zero issues with it.

Sweet, do you I can't seem to find that link. I think will just go with these gSkill as I heard there really good. You should update your sig at bottom 8GB-->16GB :)

+1 for OWC.

I got lucky yesterday and stumbled onto a "garage sale" they were having yesterday for my 17 iMac with 4mb of RAM (soon to be 8mb).
