Hi,

Does anyone have any experience on using speakers with a S/PDIF input, if so do they works okay with the iMac? I have the following speakers Creative MegaWorks THX 2.1 250D

I am aware that the iMac has a "optical digital audio" output, so in theory they should work, just wondering if anyone has any experience of it.

It's a standard TOSLINK protocol output using a mini-toslink plug. It'll play to any external DAC you like.

That said, I would use a stand-alone DAC for highest sound quality, not one integrated with a pair of cheezy creative speakers.

It's just for the iMac, no real need for a stand alone system.

I would't use the iMac for games or TV, have a games console and TV for with a decent set of speakers for that.

I just wanted to find out if my existing computer speakers work with my iMac, how every cheesy they are, still gonna be better than the inbuilt ones on the iMac!
