I've been waiting to upgrade my series 4 black aluminum which has worn extremely well (no obvious chips / scratches) on the
body with only minor scuffs/surface scratches on the glass. I have not babied or coddled the watch at all and bump the
watch on various surfaces all the time.

I really want the black ultra 2. I know the jury is still out and there are a few reports of chipping scratching on macrumors and reddit.

Does anyone know if the DLC coating on the U2 is supposed to be stronger the the coating on the black aluminum? Does the aluminum
have more 'give' since it's softer than titanium and therefore less prone to scratches/chipping?

As long as the U2 coating is equal to the coating of the s4 black aluminum then I don't feel it's anything to be concerned about.

DLC should be stronger than the aluminum but it’s a big watch. You will most likely bang it around and hit things. I did with my Silver Ultra 2, but it looks almost new.

If you care about marks, scratches, and silver showing underneath a dark coating I’d start away from the Black Ultra 2.

As the saying goes, if you have to ask then you probably know the answer. Good luck
