S6 or S7 as backup to iphone

hi, I’m dabbling with android and have played with Xperia and Samsung j3. My main phone is iPhone 6s but am looking for a reasonable Android as backup and may move to it later this year. Checking out prices, the S6 is still good value but is a bit old now and I am thinking the S7 would be better. I am looking for decent battery and quality screen.

S6 is the opposite of a decent battery. The phone would get like 3 hours of screen on time. The S6 also felt like a lame duck because it was underspeced, lacked water resistance, and didn’t have a SD slot. S7 hands down is the clear choice for you here.

I would recommend a Pixel or similar device. Longer support and the ability to keep Android up to date even if the OEM stops support.

This is just my experience so take it for what it is worth. My employer issues me an iPhone 6S+ and I like many on here I like to keep one foot in the Apple camp and one in the Android camp. So I opted for a Galaxy S8+.

However, I found it very inconvenient two "phablet" sized phones. So I bought a used Galaxy S7. Now it is used, but I just don't like the battery life. I've done some Googling and it seems like a see a lot of complaints about S7 battery life.

I'm planning on trading in the S7 when the S9 is released and also getting a DeX station if they upgrade it. However, I've also considered getting a Pixel 2.

For you, I'd recommend you consider a Pixel 2. It will be supported a lot longer than any of the other phones mentioned.

Also, you might want to consider an Android One version of the Moto X4 from the Google Play store. I think it would cost less than the Pixel 2 and probably be supported almost as long.

S7....but as a backup phone?

I swapped out my 6s (one of my favourite phones ever) for an S7 and the S7 was an upgrade in almost every way haha. Much, much better screen, better battery life (especially if using dark background/theme), SD card expansion, better and faster camera, water resistance....worse speaker though, and no 3D touch (which is a luxury feature in some regards though I loved it). I would say right now though, the iPhone 6s runs much better on iOS 11 than the S7 does on Nougat, the 6s is better when it comes to raw horsepower...although Oreo was just released for it so maybe it will improve.

If you like having multiple phones sure - but if you're looking for a backup device as you claim, go for the cheaper phone non?
