In case you want to know
No. It’s the exact same as S6. S5 is the same as S4.So it's the same as back with the series 5? Looks like the watch SOC is on a two year cycle.
Personally this year is worse than 2 years before. At least then we got AOD for S5. This year there’s just nothing outstanding, only 1 mm. bigger screen. So, basically, it's an S year for Apple Watch Series 7? I have a feeling Apple may tweak more RAM, perhaps?
The S8 might be incremental too.Incremental upgrade, I'll wait for the S8
True but they need a big year soon. S3->S4 was the biggest upgrade in the AW history so far, they could do with a WOW factor year like this one was.The S8 might be incremental too.
It might bring a redesign, and thus a new SoC, as rumored. The S8 might be incremental too.
Power efficiency I guess is the main reason at this point, I would have been happier with this year's refresh if they had extended battery life by even just a few hours. Not much a processor improvement can do for a watch, I guess. I have a feeling the S6/7 SoC is still quite powerful for its use case.
That big year might be the S10, sadly no one knows anything apart from Apple. I’m not going to wait until next year to get an Apple Watch, I already waited to get the S7 over the S6, at least it’s an improvement.True but they need a big year soon. Each to their own of course, but for me the S5 works fine for what I need it to do. Sure slightly brighter AOD and faster charging are nice but to trade in my SSSB 5 and get a 7 I would lose a shed load of cash. That big year might be the S10, sadly no one knows anything apart from Apple. That’s understandable. I haven’t had an Apple Watch, so I’m in a different situation. Each to their own of course, but for me the S5 works fine for what I need it to do. Sure slightly brighter AOD and faster charging are nice but to trade in my SSSB 5 and get a 7 I would lose a shed load of cash.
Wow. If this is your first Apple Watch you're in for a treat. That’s understandable. I haven’t had an Apple Watch, so I’m in a different situation.
Any time something is slower on the watch than your iPhone, like Siri commands or AirPod pairing times, it’s due to the slower single core performance. Not much a processor improvement can do for a watch, I guess. I have a feeling the S6/7 SoC is still quite powerful for its use case.
Mostly battery life. I've noticed that the hand wash detection feature seemed to cut my battery life a bit - I used to be able to go about 24 hours without needing to charge, but now I get the 10% low battery warning routinely at the end of my day. (Granted, I do wear my Watch while sleeping for sleep tracking; I only charge once a day; and I work in healthcare, so I'm washing my hands a few times per hour during regular working hours). Hardware can be changed to make detection of these things, among other health metrics, consume less energy. Hand wash detection was a neat feature that blended a few sensors, but it wasn't something the Series 4 that I'm using shipped with and so I assume it's mostly software-driven for this model.I was hoping for a new chip, but what are we really expecting our watch to do? A few years ago, there wasn't an Apple Watch. The first gen watch came out and was very slow. Right now, I'd say it's not like the S6 feels slow at all and handles all tasks quickly.
I'd say only difference between S6 and S7 will be screen size, the new colors (green and starlight), faster charging, QWERTY keyboard and some watch faces unique to the S7..So, basically, it's an S year for Apple Watch Series 7? I have a feeling Apple may tweak more RAM, perhaps?
