Well at work been using phone to check texts and emails fine.

Put in pocket then next time took it out I got a blue flashing light at top of phone so I have an alert.

jab home button, nothing.
jab power button, nothing.

hold power button nothing!

uh oh, slightly worries now as expensive (contract) phone not working.

plugged charger in nothing.

so walked from work to EE store (hate them at best of times).
anyway young girl pokes and prods buttons then bosh up comes the screen.

She said:

"your phone is in a non genuine samsung case I think it overheated"

Ummm nope!
my work place is a granite basement it is normally cold down here.

My phone is fine in a black coat in my car in the sun and felt hot, still works fine.

Unknown what caused it but it is working again.
Told her I was not going to buy a samsung case from her.

I have a rubber and plastic armored case to protect my phone.

Had this case since early march when got the phone.

Anyone else have similar problems?

Its "liquid' cooled. It shouldn't overheat.

I have tho non edge version and although it feels hot from time to time I have CPU-Z installed and 40 degrees feels warm. I think the heat transfers easy through the glass. That's all. Unlike aluminium.

I would contact Samsung instead of a clueless sales person.

It sounds to me it just hard locked and needed a forced reset. It happens. It's nothing your case would have caused.

Here is how you force reset for future reference.

If your Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 edge gets unresponsive or is stuck when you are trying to update an app or use some features of the device, here is how to manually restart Galaxy S7 or S7 edge.

  1. Wait for 40 seconds or more to see if your Galaxy S7 initiates auto-reboot.
  2. If it doesn’t happen, simply press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down key at the same time for about 7-8 seconds.
  3. Your Galaxy S7 will vibrate, turn off and then reboot.
Everything should work as it normally does. In some cases, if the reboot was severe, your Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 edge might boot into maintenance or safe mode. If that happens, you can use Volume keys to navigate the menu and Power button to select “Power” or “Reboot now” to restart your device in normal mode.

Remember, the above steps help you to force restart or reset Galaxy S7 or S7 edge. It doesn’t factory reset your device or affect the content of your device. For more severe issues and software lags, you can always factory reset your Galaxy S7 or S7 edge before going for professional help.
