Yes, another one of those threads!! lol.

My work phone is up for renewal next month, and I am now having difficulty figuring out what I want to replace it with. The s7 edge has been a solid phone, just real laggy now, and I hate the edges. I was all set on getting the V30 and now the s thinq model came out, and the S9s, what to get.

In your opinion, what would be a good choice to get? I use an iPhone X for my personal phone which I carry as well. The s7 edge is on my belt clip while the X is in my pocket.

If cash is not a problem, S9+:
Better battery life than the S9
Better camera and longer support than the Note8
Better support than the V30S ThinQ

I am not sure about how pronounced the edges feel in hand on the S9/S9+. Note 8 edges aren't bad. Since they're more or less the same, I suggest going LG V30 or the new LG V30 updated device. The regular V30 will drop in price, doesn't offer gimmicky edge screens, and offers a good mix of Android software features.

I would never encourage anyone to go with LG until they start getting more serious about updates.

Your thread doesn’t compare the Note8, S9, S9+, and LG V30S ThinQ. I know you just saw iPhone and couldn’t stop yourself from posting something anti-iPhone, but it didn’t answer the question.

Is reading comprehension and deduction that difficult?

What's the most important aspect of a work phone?
Anyone that has been issued a work phone can agree on staying connected.

What works well for staying connected from the comments?
Galaxy S8.
Note 8 isn't mentioned specifically but it's very similar and slightly newer to the S8.

What doesn't work well?
Up to iPhone X
Google Pixel
Note 4

Unknowns
Galaxy S9 isn't out yet but we're going to assume it's just as good if not better than S8 and Samsung has more experience in connectivity since they also provide 4G/5G equipment to carriers.
LG V30S isn't out yet so either research others' experience or perform your own testing.

Deduction
Anything S8 or newer is a safe bet for staying connected so from the list the Note 8, S9 and S9+. For other secondary reasons, it's really a toss up.

Overall, S9 is probably the best choice BUT I want to mention two things. I'm using LG V30 now.

- audio quality is phenomenal. It was really LG, who started making audio a priority on smartphones starting with original V10. V30 of course take it much further. so if you are a heavy music listener, consider this.

- dual lens cam. I absolutely love LGs implementation of dual lens cam. so you can switch between normal and dual mode. in dual mode, you are able to capture a much bigger area, think panorama but much simpler and in one shot.

LG needs to straighten out it’s P-OLED issues on the Pixel 2XL and also fix their shoddy UI, so definitely agree on needing more updates and software revisions. But no edge screens means the only Galaxy the OP should get is the S8 Active.

And that would be a much better investment than anything LG is putting out right now.

If you are not going to use the SPen then rather take the Note8 out the equation completely, the phone is especially focused on being productive with the SPen. You will often see many of us Note Loyalists say no other phone will do as we need that SPen.

Give the Note8 a try and if you see that the SPen brings no real benefit for you, then rather get the S9+.

Honestly I'd say this is between the S9+ and Note8, both are better than the other devices mentioned, IMO.

All the best!

Agreed, but it is a large phone. If I go the S9 route, it is difficult to decide for the big one or not. I mostly use my personal phone for all web browsing, etc, but my work phone mostly for emails, and phone calls. So, the bigger screen may not be needed.

Not sure if better support matters as my work replaces our phones every two years.

Is reading comprehension that difficult? V30S isn't even listed on LG site so it's vaporware. Try to offer something useful.

$300 trade in for the S7 Edge towards S9/S9+.

https://www.samsung.com/us/trade-in/

Yeah, the V30s is coming out. My work doesn't trade in our phones, so it will be an out right buy from our business account. Plus my s7 edge is down to 72% health on the battery now. So, it really drains fast when I actually am on calls, etc.

I honestly haven't seen much of an issue lately with them. I think they resolved some of their issues. The S8 Active is a great idea if it was current. But being that it's fairly old now, I will have to pass. S9, V30s, Note 8 were my choices. I had the Note 8 for a bit, and liked it a lot actually. The sides didn't bother me as they did with the s7 edge. But the phone was very large and I missed the iOS system. I like Android for my work because I can custom set my ringers, times I am not supposed to get calls, etc. Comes in handy.

When I had my Notes in the past, I rarely used the S-Pen. But when I did use it, it was nice to have. Just getting the Note 8 now, is getting last years tech with an older processor. So I am not sure if that would be a wise buy.

Well, I guess the s9+ is going to be the phone.
May as well be. 128GB built-in memory even with Memory Expansion of course, that's more than the Note8 and others.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense to get the Note 8 unless you just want the spen. :)
This is what I keep telling people. If the SPen is not a major part of your buying decision then the Note line is not for you.

The Galaxy Note series has become somewhat of the more Productivity focused Niche device, that's why it's design is so unwieldy and screen so large, it's simply not aimed at the masses the way the S Plus line models are meant for, but Samsung have also shot themselves in the foot, they need to indicate this in their pricing and better differentiate between S Plus line and Note line.

If the Note9 doesn't come with 8GB RAM I'll be surprised. It would make sense if they gave the Note line 8GB RAM and the S Plus line 6GB RAM while the regular S Line gets 4GB RAM - they could stick with that sort of setup for a few years I'm sure and just work on the software...... Thats unless 16GB RAM phones are on the way, but I highly doubt we will see that, not in the next 2years at least.
