Sacrilege: Is there a program or a way to create a windows7 like taskbar on OSX?

I am a windows user trying to convert to OSX because its clearly the better OS.

The one issue i'm having is my workflow being slowed down by the lack of a taskbar the way windows has it.

Basicly, for the way I work, having a non-obstruve bar at the bottom of the screen that lists all your currently open programs and lists all the open subwindows of that program (for example say I have 3 safari windows open, would like all 3 to list). The taskbar should let me click once on any of those and it will switch me to that program. It should only list the apps that are currently open/running.

Does anyone know if there is an add-on or app that I can get which would replicate that functionality in OSX?

I don't know of a program, but this is sort of a workaround.
1) Remove everything but Finder from the Dock
2) Set Dock Settings so that application windows minimize into their own dock icon instead of the Application window.
3) Use Finder to open applications

Are you aware you can right click a dock icon and see a list of its current open windows?

I'm with you...Windows 7 has it over the Finder/Dock bigtime in this regard.

Try DockView; it's in the Mac Apple Store and online http://kapeli.com/dockview/

It is what Apple should have done: hover over an icon and you see all the application's open windows in smallish or large view, even if they're in other Spaces (provided you have already gone to that Space once). You can then click on a particular window to go there, or close the window. Super handy.

Looks cool, but no way am I paying £6 for that!

I've struggled with this too when converting to OS X.

Try using Mission Control (Settings --> Mission Control in hot/active corners). Every time I move my mouse to the top right corner I can see all my active windows and can quickly change between them. You can use the corner of you choice. This is as efficient as the windows task bar for me.

Check out Hyperdock app. It gives you the preview of what's open when you run your curser over the app icon in the dock. Very handy!!!

Just bought Hyperdock. Picked it over DockView because of the UI.
