Hi all,

So, my iBook G3 800MHz died again. It was bought on May 1st 2004, so it's still covered by the logic board repair extension program. As soon as the display corrupted, then blinked off and on, I knew it had happened again.

I went down to the Apple store, but all the genius bar slots were taken, so I'll be online at 12:01am booking a slot for tomorrow.

I think when I get it back, it's time to sell it and put the $200 or so I might get for it towards a MacBook. It has an airport card. A couple of people have suggested I break it for parts once it's repaired, as i'd get more for the parts than for the whole machine.

How would YOU retire my iBook for maximum financial gain?

You'll get more than $200...especially with the airport card.

I don't suggest you part it out, I would just sell the airport card on ebay for $100 and then sell the iBook for around $250 or so wherever you can. You could possibly even get $300 if it's in really good condition.

If I were you I would first try putting it up on ebay for $375 BIN on eBay with the airport card and everything. If you get that, that's great.

I've looked on eBay and for a 12" G3 800/30GB/384MB/Airport/CDROM, in good condition, which'll have a brand new logic board in a week. It looks like $350-375 is a reasonable selling price, including shipping. I think that is certainly more than I'd get for it in parts. I did the thing I always do and kept all the original packaging and manuals and disks, so that's a plus too.

As an update, I dropped off my iBook at the Apple Store yesterday, and they accepted it as a covered repair under the extension program. Hopefully, it'll be back good as new with a replacement logicboard and at that point, I'll sell it.
