Last year, you may recall a spirited discussion of an online seller of iPods who was selling below wholesale. The seller and their website will not be mentioned by name here.
There were those on MR who defended the site, and those who maintained that the site had the hallmarks of a scam.
(Some of the general things to watch for are recently created domains, addresses at a UPS store and/or at residential addresses, lack of company address and contact information on the site, conflicting information in WHOIS records, inability to take charge cards, suspicious testimonials from 'customers', delays in shipping goods "pay now and we'll ship in 14 days", suspected shill postings on forums and newsgroups, impossibly low prices on high-end goods, etc.)
There is an end-game to this story -- NBC news reports that the FBI are investigating the company in question:
"The I-Team has learned that the business is the subject of FBI interest after a trail of angry customers have alleged that combined, they paid (x company) millions of dollars and didn't receive the products they had ordered."
