Safari 11 and playing videos

Visiting Reddit in Safari 11 on a 17,1 Sierra iMac w 24gb RAM, I can no longer play gif or simple videos from Reddit. I can play videos from YouTube. Did Safari 11 reset video settings some how?

When visiting Reddit, all I see are a picture, which would normally begin playing the gif or small video, but not in Safari 11.

Anyone might have a clue what has happened?

Safari 11 has new feature to configure Auto-Play preference. The default is "Stop Media with Sound". Change it to "Allow All Auto-Play" for Reddit if you want want it to automatically play videos. The setting is in Safari Preferences>Websites>Auto-Play.

Well, I tried this and restarted Safari 11, nothing changed. Do I have to restart the iMac?

No you should not have to restart. I do not use Reddit, but it does work to to stop or enable Auto-Play for MacWorld web pages.

I did something in terminal this year, to stop auto-playing videos. Can’t remember what command I used, or where I got the command text. The terminal had stopped all auto play videos everywhere, but with a couple of side effects, like needing to recenter videos during play.

If I updated to Safari 11, wouldn’t that cancel the terminal commands I input this past year?

Gifs play in column view Finder, but they don't play in Safari 11.

Apple Senior Tech tells me this is an on going issue w Safari 11. The Senior tech says there will be a correcting update soon. But for now Safari 11 cannot play gifs.

I was going to make a video and attach it here, but probably better if you just go to the site yourself and give it a minute to load, there are alot gifs on that page.

I can get none of the gifs from reddit to play. I have to download them, and play them in column view, or other apps.
I called Apple Support, the senior tech told me Safari doesn't play gifs. Don't know what to think now.

All gifs are playing when clicked, they do not autoplay.

I went to the main page, but could not find a gif. Do you have a direct link... the main page has thumbnails and videos and they all work as expected.

Reddit gifs play perfectly in ios 11, but not in safari 11 on my iMac 10.12.6. The tech could not get them to play.
