Hi all,

I have searched for a similar issue but cannot find anything that matched so apologies if its just because I suck and can't find it.

I only noticed this since installing the Safari 13 update, however, it may have been a problem before and I have just not noticed it.

I have a late 2015 5K iMac, periodically when in full screen mode in safari and I hit the Tab Overview button, my graphics card goes berserk and I have to restart my Mac to get back to normality.

I don't have any other graphics related issues and I have tried the usual clearing cache (normal method and via the developer menu) as well as deleting all web site data.

Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue? It doesn't happen every time I use the Tab Overview button but its on average 1 in 15 times.

Thanks,
ST

This has happened to me before on older versions of Safari. Recommend reporting it to Apple. Surprised the issue (which is serious enough to interrupt what you’re doing and require a restart) still isn’t fixed, but it does seem to be specific to the Late 2015 iMac.

Thanks for the input. Just odd that it freaks out the graphics card so much. I thought the GPU was fried at first. I will report to Apple. Many thanks.

Just as an update incase anyone is interested..... I reported this issue to Apple - tech support on chat for about 1.5 hours having me change this and that.... ended up re-installing the operating system. Still crashes!!!! The search continues.

If you referring to the same behavior in the attached clip.

Had this issue on my late 2015 27" iMac when clicking tab view in Safari 12.

It's a hardware fault, needing a replacement screen and logic board.

Yeah very similar to what your video depicts...... did you need to get the logic board replaced? Did it fix the issue? Its just odd, as in safe mode, whilst on the phone with the tech, we could not get it to crash at all.

iMac 5K 27 Late 2015, MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 , Safari 13.0.1 and tab overview working flawlessly, so looks like you have a hardware problem, in safe mode metal is switched off, so no hardware acceleration

Ok, thanks for the reply's guys. Will continue down the avenue of tech support.... will let you know the outcome in case anyone has interest.

Yes the logic board was replaced. Unfortunately the problem came back 3 months later, but this time the problem occurred whilst doing photo editing. Again, logic board and screen replaced.

The Apple service provider I used, could only replicate the issue after subjecting the iMac continuously to heavy diagnostics tests and the issue only came up after 72 hours.

Incase anyone has interest, I did more research on this issue..... I found a forum discussion on the Apple Support site where a bunch of people had the same issue.... they were convinced it was a corrupt driver issue. I am not saying the above regards the logic board is not valid, just relaying what I have found. Also, and probably more interesting.... I have just installed Catalina and so far the issue is not occurring (touch wood). The animation is not as smooth as I would like, but it ain't crashing so far.
