I am sharing an observation regarding the new Safari 17.0, which I have tested on macOS 12.7, macOS 13.6, and macOS 14.0.

If you utilize Weekly to maintain a website's content, the option to insert a link is broken. Specifically, if you highlight the desired text to become a link, e.g. "click here", then choose the option to insert a link, the link will be placed elsewhere within the page's text.

This first screenshot demonstrates the process of creating a link, which seems to be going well.

This second screenshot demonstrates a the result of inserting the link. Notice, the link is not where it was intended to be on the "click here" text.

I am not expecting to find a solution here, as I presume Weebly or Apple will need to fix it. I am simply sharing my experience with this community. By the way, it continues to work just fine in another web browser such as Firefox.

Yes, this!! Thank you for posting, as I thought it was just me, but I suspected Safari 17 had something to do with it. Weebly worked great before I upgraded... but now, not so much. Can't add links, they do exactly what you said. If I type, "Click here for recipes" and try to link the word "here" to a page called Cooking, Weebly will create a link called Cooking and put it at some random place on my page.

Under Ventura and Sonoma, Safari 17 causes problems if you edit a weebly website. If you try to link the title of movie with it's pdf file, the name comes in it. E.g. THE GREEN MILE becomes THE GRTheGreenMile.pdfEEN MILE. Very annoying.

On my Mac, Firefox is also incompatible with Weebly. I don't get the toolbar. But Brave remains compatible, luckilly.

I contacted Weebly support and was told this issue is a known bug, and they’re working on it, but for now there’s no ETA. If it helps, I downgraded to Safari 16.6.1 and everything with Weebly is right as rain. Will just put Safari 17 on ice for now.

Thanks. How do I downgrade to Safari 16.6.1? Anyway, I use Brave Browser for now and that works. Firefox doesn't work either, there is no toolbar.

Update without progress: Safari 17.1 was recently released. I tested Safari 17.1 on macOS 13.6.1. The link bug documented in my original post remains annoying. I shall continue to wait for Apple and/or Weebly to resolve this bug.

I use Brave for the links at this moment.
