has anyone else noticed that the new safari update has made the program slower when loading pages? notably, the end of the page takes a second or two to load (whereas before it was much much quicker), and it will beachball for a sec as it finishes?

The only problem I've having is the first time I open up the Bookmarks menu since I started the App will pause everything for a few seconds. Other than that I find it much faster than previous versions, I love it.

I actually noticed that at first, but just empty the cache and reset safari (remove whichever options you'd like), and it should run like new. This is exactly what I did and it is definitely noticeably faster.

Both options are under the Safari menu.

Safari was much slower for me right after the update. I rebooted. Then it was at least as fast as before the update. It could be a coincidence, but I have no more Safari sluggishness.

Thanks! i guess it was a cache issue, but i still find that some ads take a split second longer to load.

I think i need to be less anal.

After the update, Safari was so slow that it was unusable.

So, I rebooted my computer and now the browser screams.

Try that.

Also, download a freeware program called MainMenu to do some maintenace tasks before you shut down.

I found that it loads pages, and then when it has like 90% done, it hangs for a few seconds before finishing.

semi-rent/general nuissance

why are people here commenting on safari 3.1 who do not (seem to) have a macbook air? I mean I'm all for freedom of speech, but this IS the Macbook Air subforum, right? So if anyone wanted a general opinion on the snappiness of Safari 3.1, maybe this is not where they would've posted it.

Well this issue isn't strictly restricted to the Macbook Air. I'm on an MBP and I had the exact same problem and as this is a help forum, I think it's appropriate that everyone shares tips no matter what system they're on.

I didn't realize it was the MBA forum (link from spy.mr.com).

yep....although now with more cashed stuff, it only does this with like 40% of pages. i can deal with it though.

No I find it to be much much faster than it was before the 3.1 update. However I find Firefox 3 to be slightly faster than Safari though. I guess that is a case of personal preference though. :)

i have many problems with safari 3.1, i have detected this things.

1. When you click a link with the touch trackpad... the page dont load completly, it hangs, and i need to push enter key again, and now it load perfect.

2. sometimes, also with the button, when i click a link, the same that before... the page dont load completly, and need to push enter again to load it perfect.

3. Youtube videos, and google videos, that are embed in blogs.... load very slowly than before

I experience the same as this too - its almost like being on dial up again (which is a shock when you're on a 24meg connection). I've tried most of the suggested fixes listed at http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070416000657464 including deleting .plist, changing DNS, ditching plugins etc and its still slow.

I've never liked Firefox but seems I'm going to have to get used to it as this new version of Safari is just too poor to use.
