Hi

I noticed that, when opening a new tab in Safari it doesn't automatically set focus on the adress bar. A trifle for many but I like it when you just hit cmd+t and then type the adress. Is there a setting for this or is it something removed or maybe they just forgot?

It's happening to some people, but not everyone. So far I haven't seen anyone come up with a solution to it yet.

small freezes while typing

Hello,

I also have that problem and reported it via Feedback Assistant. I'm confident that it will be fixed in the next release. :)

However I have another issue with the address bar that is when I'm typing about half the time there are small freezes after I press a key e.g. if I want to go to The Verge, my experience is like this: th<freeze>e<freeze>verge.com or if typing some subreddit reddit.com/r<freeze>/apple. The duration of these freezes is about 1-2s so it is not unusable but frustrating :(

I tried disabling spotlight from the address bar, prerendering, and other options on that screen but did not make any difference.

Anyone experiencing something like this?

I'm not. When you're experiencing this, are you looking in Activity Monitor for any processes not responding? I've been keeping an eye on it because Spotlight keeps acting up and I have to kill related processes.

Yes, spotlightnethelper (from memory) is always not responding although it is not consuming cpu or significant memory resources. However even with it killed and spotlight from address bar disabled this problem still occurs.

Other than that is hard to see because each of these freezes is about 1-2s and the sampling time of Activity Monitor doesn't allow me to see any spikes of such short duration. I also tried to get a "sample" stacktrace from Safari while this is happening but it is hard to get the timming right :p

Yeah, spotlightnethelper is the same thing that's always freezing for me too. I don't know what else you could do to troubleshoot it. About all I could recommend is another fresh install.

It's suddenly gotten better for me.

Upon initial installation Safari was laggy and the address bar didn't auto-focus.

After using it for a bit it's all better now.

I don have any problems with it however if you don't want to move and click the address bar with your mouse you can always use cmd+L

So without doing anything different it just started working on it's own?

I don't have the auto focus issue. But if I type too quickly after making a new tab, the text gets erased. Annoying as hell.

Came here to find a fix for the issue( Beside the focus I found that in my Safari there is no difference whether "Show Favourites"checkbox in Preferences-Search is active or not — they are just shown

darn, no solution.

for me I it's working to double TAB after the new tab is open.
hope it will be fixed.

regarding the freezing after a letter I get it with "a", which is annoying since it's a part of my username...when typing it freezes for about 5 seconds after typing "a"
