Just so you know, I have downloaded the update. I plan to install it.

I want to know how to get Safari 8.0 to use the version that's installed on my computer, regardless of whether or not it's the most up-to-date version. Yes, yes, I know that that would leave me open to vulnerabilities. But let's face it, sometimes it isn't very convenient to have to update Flash Player.

First up, I don't haver an answer, but if there is one I'm very interested in hearing it.

I have the bad habit of leaving windows/tabs open, with the intention of picking up where I left. Then suddenly, with 20+ pages open, you NEED to IMMEDIATELY do one thing on one site, which demands you update Flash.

D**n, once I get this rant finished, I'll go reopen all my tabs...

Haven't tried it myself, but I guess you could edit the XProtect.meta.p-list using the terminal

/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.p-list

You would just need to edit the version number of flash that you want to run. Of course it would probably be easier just to update flash

If you want to stop auto-diasbling of plugins in the future - and this would be very much at your own risk - you could go into System Preferences and Security and uncheck 'Automatically update safe downloads list'. This prevents the XProtect.meta.p-list file from getting rebuilt. I would say it's completely nuts to take this option - but it will do the trick!
