when I have music playing in either Apple Music or Spotify and I’m scrolling on websites (cnn is a bad offender) my music stops when an ad pops up, if I could end the ad and the music resume that would be ok but I have to actually goto Notification Center or use Siri to resume playing - any ideas how to resolve this ? I’ve googled this over several days and can’t seem to find a decent solution... it is happening a lot more frequently as of late

It'd be nice if the no auto-play feature thst was added to Safari in macOS High Sierra was also in iOS, where it's realistically needed even more.

I thought it was in iOS, no?

The other day I was switching back and forth between tabs while working on a site and CNN happened to auto-play a video. I thought "what the ?" And then realized that I was using Chrome because the inspector is better. :)

Only macOS (at less so far) it seems: https://www.macrumors.com/2017/09/25/apple-releases-macos-high-sierra/

iOS could certainly use it even more than macOS really (given that on a desktop there are extensions and other things that could be done to help avoid autoplay even if it's not built-in into a browser).

Looks like Chrome will be getting it too: https://www.cnet.com/news/google-chrome-to-block-autoplay-videos-from-january/

I agree iOS could use the autoplay blocking. At the very least stop websites / ads from hijacking my audio even if they aren't playing anything.

Yeah, I saw that Chrome was rolling it out at some point a while back. Not sure why I thought it was already in there. At least they (Google) have (somewhat) baked in Touch Bar support, albeit I think Safari's is better.

This is a hideous oversight really. Every morning I listen to music and surf the web on my iPhone, every morning the music is interrupted by videos autoplaying on websites. Why can I not stop them from playing? Or at least specify that the autoplay audio should not be prioritised over the already playing music?

I have already sent Apple feedback and I suggest anyone else affected do the same :)

Why have you not downloaded an adblocker from the App Store?

I have two so far, but they don’t seem to stop all videos from autoplaying, just some ad videos.

I’ve been googling and haven’t yet found a common solution for this. It seems to me like there *should* be a safari setting to stop all auto play - but it’s not there for some reason.

Sorry if I’ve missed something obvious :)

I have the exact same issue and my ad blockers dont seem to fix it. Its not always ads, but sometimes just video clips in articles.
