Are you asking for recommendations for adblockers for Safari - besides activating all internal functions it provides? Take a look on Adguard, 1Blocker, Magic Lasso Adblock, … additionally e.g. change your DNS to one of Cloudflare's (1.1.1.1, 1.0.0.2, 1.1.1.2).

@Slartibart what's the advantage of changing DNS and how do you do this? Do they block/filter bad sites?
They do offer protection against known malicious websites and provide another layer of protection- here is a guide by Apple to set the DNS your Mac uses manually. I recommend reading the Safari User Guide - at least the chapter on Privacy & Security and then set its preferences according to your needs. Besides that install at least one of the mentioned adblockers¹.

¹ additional adblockers by other developers ARE available. 🤓

You can also use something like adguard DNS to block all kinds of nasties:

Prior to Apple's Private Relay I configured my DNS to use OpenDNS's servers:

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Privacy Relay activated will override those servers.

See your DNS routing:

OpenDNS has filters you can configure to block various categories of sites.
