I did a search and not much helpful showed up. I just got a new iPad 8, my first foray into the Apple system. I would like to get my bookmarks from from my android tablet over to Safari. I cannot believe that Apple does not allow this. Yes, I could run Chrome on the iPad, but I was going to give Safari a chance, since it is Apple's browser and this is an iPad. Am I missing something or do they really lock other's bookmarks out?

I think the functionality to import bookmarks from another service is not there, it’s not likely a question of not allowing.
What options does your other tablet have to export them?

I can get them onto the iPad as an HTML file, but no way to interface this with Safari. The closest thing is opening the file, clicking on link, then it opens. But every time I want to open a new link, I have to go back to the file and click as opposed to going to the top of the browser and clicking on a fav. It's kind of ridiculous for a browser not to import favorites. Like buying a car with a radio, but no way of adding your fav stations to the radio.

Well, that would be a problem with the radio in the new car and not with the car per se. In the case of the car, you could replace the radio, but in the case of the iPad, unfortunately, that is not an option.

Well, the problem is with Safari, not the iPad itself. Yeah, as I said Safari is ridiculous in this regard. What were they thinking at Apple? I have loaded Chrome and it works great. Bye, bye Safari.

Can’t delete Safari and Chrome runs on top of Safari so uses more memory and not as smooth. I came from Google eco system as well. It will be worth it to start book marking in Safari and using that if you plan to stick it out. It will be worth it.

If you are not moving to Apple ecosystem, than stay in Chrome.

Well I was willing to give Safari a try. One thing I do a lot is save web pages for offline viewing. I've always done this with Chrome on my Android tablet. Worked fine. When I got the iPad, I started doing this with Safari, and sometimes it would not save the page. I don't have time to waste on a browser that obviously is not ready for prime time. I love the iPad. But why do they put a POS browser on it?

I have no idea how but for me it works. There is a setting for Safari (Go to iPad Settings than Safari) where you can enable Favorites.

I use my gmail account for AppleID and I use Chrome at work on my computer so most of my bookmarks are in Chrome with the gmail account. The moment I activated the Favorites, I can see all of my bookmarks in Safari.

Cannot tell you if it is because of the gmail being my AppleID.
