For the last few days I have not been able to load macrumors.com (the main page or the forums) in safari (my browser of choice - don't let this become a browser war). It appears the browsers is waiting for some resources to load from cdn.macrumors.com (built.js is one of them). I've left the browser loading for over 30 minutes.

Things I've tried:

- emptying the caches (using the Developer menu)
- erasing all the history
- restarting the computer
- different networks (home and work)

None of which help - though the fact that I am typing this in Firefox would state the issue is with Safari and nothing else.

Has anyone else noticed this behavior with Safari and where they able to resolve it?

It works for me, I use Safari on both my Mac and iPhone. Are you using any Content Blockers? You may also want to do a malware scan.

If you're using a saved link to access MR, such as a bookmark, don't use it. Navigate to the site (it's https now) through your address bar and test. If good, set a new link.

Sounds that you're using the same device. Regardless, try --
Open Safari -> Preferences -> Privacy -> click Manage Website Data -> Either select macrumors.com from the list and click Remove, and/or click Remove All to remove the whole list.

Safari working fine here. Just as a test, go to System Preferences and in Users & Groups make a new (temp) admin account. Then login to that account and see if it works. That will at least tell us if it is something specific to your account configuration like a plugin or extension as DeltaMac mentioned.

Cheers, clearing the website data for macrumors.com (and then restart Safari) has done the trick.
