You're lucky to get that far. Since I "upgraded" to Yosemite this is what I get when i try to access Youtube.

I needed to add, the above occurs only when using Safari. Chrome has no problem with YouTube.

Not a fix, but a workaround:

Move the mouse to the bottom left (next to the play button) and leave it untouched. Both bars should disappear. Unfortunately some parts of the mouse will be still visible.

To fix this issue just hover the mouse cursor over the "i" info button at the very top right of the screen. Just hover the mouse over it for 1 second and the YouTube bar and mouse cursor will disappear. It works every time, it maybe silly but it works:D

The only issue Ive run into when playing YouTube videos in Safari running Yosemite is when I swipe "back". Instead of going back, it reloads the video. I have to swipe back again for it to actually go back.

In OS X Yosemite, Safari 8 is not playing well with YouTube and a few other sites. However, you can change the user agent that Safari 8 uses to the older 7.1 version that Mavericks uses with a terminal command, and restore functionality. Here it is:

First Quit Safari. Then open Terminal and paste this command, and press enter:

defaults write com.apple.Safari CustomUserAgent "\"Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_9_0) AppleWebKit/538.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/7.1 Safari/537.85.7\""

Open Safari and you're done.

To undo this change, close Safari and paste this command into terminal:

defaults delete com.apple.Safari CustomUserAgent

A restart may be required to get these changes to stick.

Is there an easier way to make the progress bar disappear when watching youtube video instead of going to terminal or hovering over icons? Da ***.
