Nope. You could try some of the other browsers in the app store, I bet one of them can do it.

If you moved it to the bottom, you wouldn't be able to see it once the keyboard popped up.

Is there any way to move the Safari address bar to the bottom ( that's where my thumbs are) ?

if your thumbs are at the bottom, you're holding it wrong :p
in portrait the device is far too top-heavy to be held all the way down there

i think the back button is always within easy reach when comfortably holding the pad roughly at the center of the side.

It took until iOS 4 to get customized backgrounds on the homescreen. Good luck getting Apple to let you customize Safari.

I just wish safari had a better tab system and also would allow the audio from a background tab to continue when you aren't on that tab anymore. Example if I put on a YouTube video and want to listen to the audio while visiting other pages in a new tab the video stops. On icab it continues but icab is so much slower than safari with the new JavaScript engine I can't even use it anymore

How is he holding it wrong? I hold it at the bottom all the time and the device is strong enough not to buckle from being "too top-heavy".

The keyboard could always push the navigation controls up or they could just remain on the bottom and the keyboard pop up just above the controls.

It's an interesting idea actually. Could app control bars be located at the bottom (and then simply get pushed up when keyboard is opened)? It might actually be better for usability. I do tend to find it a bit of a stretch to reach up there, whereas my thumbs tend to rest on the bottom more comfortably.

Maybe Apple will change the iOS design guidelines one day — who knows!

You guys don't know what you're talking about. If you want to move the address bar to the bottom, then open safari, lock the screen, and rotate 180". Then the bar will be at the bottom.

When I hold the iPad, my hands are on the bottom third of the screen. It's a stretch to bring my thumbs all the way up to the top of the screen to hit the back button.

of course it is, but it'd be a nearly equally big stretch / or a very awkward bending of the thumb to reach the bottom right corner.

so you it wouldn't really improve much having the menu bar down there except for undermining the UI design paradigm :/

It's not awkward at all.. The newsrack rss app has an option for the back button on the bottom which I'm using. Would be nice to see safari with such an option. But I can see how it undermines apples design standards. Maybe some on screen gestures would achieve the same result?

i'd love some 3 finger swipe for 'back' in mobileSafari.
doesn't AtomicBrowser or some other 3rd party browser offer this functionality?

That's really weird. I was just wondering if there was a way to put the bar at the bottom. Only for the nav functions.

Yes in atomic browser in "three finger tap full screen mode" the nav buttons are on the bottom. I also looked to see if you could three finger swipe back and forth, but nope. You can use a two finger swipe to change tabs which is nice.

If safari would just let you configure more things it would be ideal. I am using atomic because it let's you open tabs in the background. That's pretty much the only reason. (some of the other features were a welcomed addition too!)
