Safari autofill - doesn't

Every version of Safari recently (I am on Big Sur now) has done this. Not very much consistency between autofill behavior. So many of my websites do not "autofill" my user/password, unless I click on the right side the field where it shows the little key and down arrow, and then click the username/Touch ID icon, and then use fingerprint. To me, that is not "autofill" if I have to click an extra time to make it fill. Example sites that dont work are Marriott and Chase. But, Schwab works, my username and password autofill and I only have to touch my finger print. Anybody know how to make this work? My Safari Prefs show Autofill checked, of course.
