For the past month, maybe, 100% of the time I open Safari it freezes and beachballs for about 15-20 seconds - which is a way long time when you opened Safari with a plan to do something.

It's not a specific page. Even if the browser is not loading a page - just opens to the favorites & frequently visited page - same thing. Just a google search page - same thing. Not the internet.

Restarted computer. Checked for updates.
Any ideas?

Have you cleared the Safari cache? How many open Safari tabs? And assuming you're using the machine in your Sig line, how about other browsers, any beach balling?

Thanks - cleared cache but it makes no difference.
No beach balling on other browsers - I guess I can change if I can't fix?
Yes - this is the problem on this 2017 MacBook Pro, High Sierra.
This is recurring when I first open - or sometime switch to - Safari, even if #of tabs is one or two, and no tabs contain heavy loading data.
