i try to play some mpeg or avi files in safari, files that i know work but all i get is the quicktime symbol sitting their for many minutes on end for small clips. what gives!

thanks to the people by the way who was helping me with my startup/pic problem.

You either:

1) Don't have the correct codecs for the videos in question

or

2) The videos are taking an age to download (slow connection or slow server).

Mad Jew will probably be along with the exact solution soon :D

i have now new problems. for some reason whenever im viewing video content through safari sometimes the first frame of the video is enlarged to the size of the screen and then it gets molded all the way back down to regular size but whever i try to play it starts to jump frames and flicker (not sure if proper terminology) what should i do?
