Safari in Big Sur feels much faster than in Catalina, but how does it stack up in benchmarks?

These were all run on my iMac 5K 2014.

(Safari did not run the Web GL 2.0 tests which explains the discrepancies in scores I think. Conformance it’s ahead)

Updating as I go. Feel free to post Safari on Catalina marks to compare.

I don’t think we’ve had enough praise for Safari yet. Google Meet, which was guaranteed to overheat my poor old 5K iMac now runs a full 20ºC cooler! Incredible how much of a difference this makes to my daily life. No more putting ice packs on the back of it to stop it from shutting down!

Thanks for the benchmarks, could you please verify if 4k on YouTube is present via AV1/VP9 codec? I'm asking because the Apple TV new OS Beta does feature 4K on Youtube.

I was poking around Youtube yesterday and wasn't able to get 4K on anything using macOS 11 Beta/Safari.

I'm not sure what to make of the benchmarks frankly but in everyday use, does Safari seem quicker/smoother than Chrome?

No. And I can’t get 4K on tvOS either. The only place I’ve seen it supported is on HDR capable iPhones.

Tons of folks reporting 4K via Apple TV new OS Beta which is weird
