There has been a lot of hype from Apple about privacy. My Safari settings disable cross-site tracking. I had not visited adorama, a camera store, for quite some time. I checked them out this morning for 5 minutes. Then their ads showed up in Facebook.

What is the deal with Apple privacy?

It means that the Adorama web site most likely has some Facebook related code on it, either for a login or a hidden function. When you hit the web site that FB code is invoked and they know you were on the Adorama web site. This is the cancer that FB and their associated services are causing - they can track your access to third-party web sites through the use of frameworks and specific web services that companies like Adorama use to implement their own web sites.

You might want to look at third-party products that can block this type of thing, such as 1Blocker on your Mac, or a router based product like pfBlocker on a pfSense box. These can block most of these types of tracking, and there are other products that can deliver the same results.

I highly suggest a good adblocker like 1Blocker that will not only block ads but, it will also block Google, Facebook, Instagram and other tracking (should you chose to), along with many other annoyances that invade online privacy.

Apple's statement on "personalized ads". So read into it as you will because this sounds a lot like how Windows 10 does it as well. Personally, I don't trust any company including Apple to not sell my data and browsing habits. If you are on the internet expect everyone to try and attempt to track and follow you.

"Turning off personalized ads will limit Apple's ability to deliver relevant ads to you but will not reduce the number of ads you receive".

So if you want generic ads turn off personalized ads in: system settings --> security and privacy --> privacy -- Apple advertising.
