I have a Macbook Pro, iPhone 5 & iPad Air, all with iCloud enabled and safari checked in iCloud settings. Problem is that my bookmarks from my MBP are not in sync with the iOS devices even after i uncheck and re-check the safari option in iCloud.

The strange thing is that when i add a new bookmark, either on the MBP or the iOS devices, they show up on all devices so in some way the syncing works. It`s just that my most current bookmarks setup (MPB) is not the same as on the iPhone & iPad.

Any idea what could be the problem?

I`m running OS X 10.9 and iOS devices have latest version of iOS 7.

Just to chime in and maybe get some help, I too am having problems with syncing now. No syncing from one iOS device to another let alone to my MBP and viceversa.

Testing results in no bookmarks being saved at all to iCloud from any of the devices, and no bookmarks are getting downloaded.

Turning Safari syncing on and off on the three devices doesn't change this. I've also started noticing that when I force Safari to close on my iPhone and iPad Mini the bookmarks I just saved will disappear completely too.

It's just not working, and console keeps shooting out (on my Mac):

com.apple.launchd.peruser.502[286]: (com.apple.safaridavclient[762]) Job appears to have crashed: Abort trap: 6

Application Specific Information:

The only thing different between what you are running and what I am running is you are on Mavericks and I'm still on 10.8.5 Safari bookmark syncing works fine for me.

  • Backup your Safari bookmarks on your Mac.
  • Turn off bookmark syncing on all devices.
  • Quit Safari on all devices.
  • Turn on bookmark syncing on your Mac and wait for the syncing to complete.
  • After the Mac has finished syncing, turn on bookmark syncing on one iOS device and wait for the syncing to complete.
  • Try adding a bookmark on your Mac and see if it gets synced to the iOS device, this may take a minute or so.
  • If that works try a bookmark change on the iOS device and see if that syncs.
  • NOTE: Bookmark change syncing seems to take longer than contact and calender changers to sync.
  • After that works, do one iOS device at a time.

If that doesn't work, you may want to reset Safari everywhere and then with bookmark syncing on everywhere use the bookmarks backup on your Mac to add your bookmarks back.

I followed the steps in your post and here`s what happened:

After turning off bookmarks syncing on all devices & closing safari, i first turned on the syncing on my Mac and it started to download the bookmarks, problem is that the downloaded setup was not the same as the current setup i had on the Mac when i closed down the syncing, i noticed for example that a lot of older bookmarks i had already deleted in the past was now downloaded from iCloud again. A real mess!

So it appears that iCloud server have a different setup of bookmarks than my current setup on the Mac. One way to solve this would be to reset the iCloud safari setting on the server but i havn`t found a way to do this and i`m not even sure if it can be done?

Then, i manually deleted some of the duplicates & older bookmarks on my Mac and after this i turned on the syncing for the iOS devices again but to my surprise the setup on the iPhone,iPad was not the same as on the Mac even after i had done the manual clean up.
I also tried to add new bookmarks on my Mac but they didn`t show up on the iOS devices at all, i waited for 10 minutes i think.

Obviously, there is a problem in the syncing process, both when i download a new setup of bookmarks to a device and also the syncing between the different devices.

If you log into iCloud.com and select the drop down menu in the upper right corner, select Account Settings, then there is an option that says Advanced, then Reset Documents & Data which you'll need to select twice through two different menus.

Having said that, I should tell you that I tried this, it failed and it stated as much, and I'm now on my 4th-5th day talking directly to Apple Support over the phone to have the issue resolved. They don't know (yet) what's going on with my account, but they now have direct password access in an attempt to troubleshoot whatever might be wrong. This after we performed a Console dump for errors connecting with the iCloud Server for the bookmark syncing which is not at all working in any direction at this point.

Will let you know whatever they uncover as they work through it.

Thanks, very curious to know what they have to say about it.

I tried to reset the iCloud settings but it didn`t help me either, after doing the reset i turned on iCloud on my Mac and it started to download the bookmarks but once again, i got a lot of duplicates & older deleted bookmarks.

So far no response so I'm guessing they're having 'fun' figuring out just how screwed my account must be, lol!

Hi Regal!

I finally had my last call with Apple Support just now and they ended up having to purge my bookmark database from their end through the engineering department which was monitoring my account from their end using debugging mode.

There's absolutely no way for us as users to delete the database from our end, and at least in my case (and probably in yours) the conflict was from a jumbled mess of bookmarks they had on the server from ages and ages ago, might have been Xmarks Bookmark Sync that busted it to begin with, but removing said bookmarks has allowed me to resynchronize my bookmarks from a clean start now. They had me backup the ones I wanted to keep so we could resync them now.

They also said if I had the problem again I should call them to let them know. Here's hoping it doesn't happen, but at least for now all is well!

Good luck and here's hoping they take care of yours sooner! Holidays really slowed my process down, hehe.

I still have the same problem as before, the syncing of Safari bookmarks does not work between my Macbook pro and iOS devices.
Whenever i add a new bookmark on my MBP, it doesn`t show up on the iOS devices like it should. Both my MBP & iOS devices have iCloud enabled.

Anyone else having the same problem? Is there any solution?

Similar problem here. And the above instructions don't even work anymore since obviously you can now only see "My Devices" in iCloud when you are on iOS 8 and Yosemite - which I won't be for quite some time since I will not again be Apple's alpha tester for their colorful junk. I'm just happy to have everything more or less running they way I want it despite some quirks and some stuff that never really worked. So now there goes iCloud I suspect. Good thing I'm already on my own Exchange server and MS OneDrive. Not great but at least it works and they don't force down your throat a new "upgrade" every other month.

Bump this old thread, i still have this annyoing problem and i can`t figure out why it`s not working.
The problem is as described above, whenever i add a new bookmark on my Macbook Pro, it does not show up on my iOS devices. The only way to sync it is to temporarely disable iCloud for Safari on the Mac and then re-enable it again. Then, the new bookmark show up on the iOS devices but i can`t imagine it`s supposed to work like this?

The other direction it works like it should, when i add/delete a bookmark on the iOS devices, the change also takes place on the Mac.

Anyone else with this annoying issue and what can i do?
