Safari- Can't see active tab.

Hello All.

2015 MBP, Big Sur 11.3.1
Safari Version 14.1 (16611.1.21.161.6)

In doing a search, I wasn't able to find the solution. The issue is that when using Safari, with multiple tabs open, I am unable to see which one is active. This makes it difficult to close the correct tab, when desired and has caused me to close tabs that I did not mean to.

Anyway, I'm guessing it's a simple solution, but I am unable to find it easily. If possible, I would even re-install the Safari browser.
It may be that I was tinkering with settings months ago, I don't remember exactly what, if anything, was changed.

In your screenshot, the active tab is the lightest colored one; the non-actives are darker gray. Are there times when they all appear to be the same darker gray?

I looked again, and am now wondering if I'm colorblind. I am unable to distinguish between the open tab and the others whatsoever. It is simply plain text on white background, without border, shade, etc. They all appear identical to me.

Here's something you can try: go to Settings > Accessibility > Display, and turn on Increase Contrast. Does that help?

Or decrease the display contract in the same panel, you might have increased the contrast so much that the difference between active and inactive tabs are not visible anymore.

Thanks for the solution.

Clearly, a genius move by Apple: offer to increase display contrast, to improve UI visibility.

But… any increase in contrast — completely eliminates contrast that distinguishes the active tab in Safari, which is usually the most impt app on the Mac.

Jony Ives' ghost still haunts Apple.
