Safari choosing mobile instead of standard

How do you force Safari to log into the standard version of a site instead of its mobile version?

I don't think you can.

But you can download iCab or Atomic Web and do this. They're overall nicer anyway in most people's opinions, including mine.

Spend a dollar and get Atomic browser. Excellent value for the money!

I like iCab slightly more. It's $2. But I suggest just getting them both and trying them out, they're both good, and $3 total isn't much.

How do you force Safari to log into the standard version of a site instead of its mobile version?

It's simple, really. You visit websites that understand the iPad is more than a big iPod touch...

There is not much you can do about it, as a user. Long story short, the website asks your computer (or iPad in this case) what browser it is using, and sends out the content based in what it thinks your browser can do. For example, they might load a less complicated version for IE6 than Firefox. That's why sites link you to mobile versions of their page... They haven't differentiated between mobile safari for iPad and for iPhone.

Using Atomic Web browser I have managed to log into the full MobileMe. The calendar, contacts, mail, etc seem to work, but the I drive won't because of the general lack of a filesystem in the iPad. I have Good Reader to solve that...

Atomic has options for spoofing several different desktop browsers. Just be aware it doesn't add anything to the webpage experience though (full Java, flash, etc still doesn't work). It's still a much better browser than Safari.

Not debating the pros and cons between browsers. Just sharing info =)

Most website that offer the "mobile" experience tend to provide a link at the bottom to show the full website.

I know sites like YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Google do.

(I know you've solved the problem, just putting this advice here for those who wish not to jailbreak)
