I've sent this to Apple several times for many versions of Safari since Monterey came out. Did the usual troubleshooting steps (turning off ALL extensions, safe mode, clear history/cache, restore macOS, etc.). This also happens on Safari Technology Preview.

The address bar, when compact mode is on, shows cutting off behaviour when typing into text.
  1. Instead of "Search or enter website," it says, "Search or ent"
  2. If you type anything into that abnormal address bar, it will become cut off.

This only occurs if there is video or audio playing in another tab, where the speaker icon appears.
Attached a video in case anyone gets confused or doesn't have this bug showing on their end. Doesn't matter where video comes from. As long as that speaker icon comes up.

Is this happening to anyone else? I really like compact mode ... weird, it's happening.

Yes, this Compact mode is really a good idea, but unfortunetaly Apple went back before having the feature polished. They probably spent more time finding a better implementation (especially for iOS, as macOS is generally left behind) than polishing this feature. That’s a shame as it could be a big improvement to usability, but at this time it is buggy and contains lots of UI glitches… Hopefully we’ll get a better implementation next year (without being so confident as Apple completely rolled back for the default view on macOS)
