Guys, what content blocker extension you suggest for 10.11.1 beta Safari?

AdBlock Plus is the best, IMO. Allows you to automatically block ads, plus gives you the ability to hide elements such as sidebar items that you simply don't want to see even though they aren't ads.

Ghostery is a great add-on as well. It blocks trackers for better privacy.

Thanks. I installed AdBlock plus. Will test it today. Is there a way to see what exactly ads it blocks on the particular website ? Or some key combination to reload the site with no ad blocker active ?

In a van down by the river
If I am not mistaken, you can ad your own .json file (same kind of list that is seen with easy list etc.) to Safari by enabling the developer menu, and going to the extensions submenu. Doing that would give you more control and allow you to amend the file as you see fit.

Would you go so far it as to say that using a .json file loaded in safari's extensions builder is basically the same as using a hosts file?

Also, from what I understand, if I am not mistaken, the current ad blocking extensions that we have been using do not work in Safari 9 on El Capitan. Have to be designed differently. Take a look at the link below.

It’s not the same. A hosts file blocks IP addresses. This means that when a website links to, for example, a JavaScript file of an ad network, that connection will be blocked. It’s a very crude but potentially effective method of blocking advertising, it even works across the system in all browsers and applications, but it isn’t nearly as sophisticated as the new content blocking extensions in Safari. These can white-list certain websites, can hide HTML elements, can block scripts even without specifying the IP address.

Ahhh, gotcha. Looks like I may just revert back to you using Glimmerblocker until the developers get their ad block extensions working in El Capitan.

True and I tried Adguard for Mac a couple weeks ago and it works pretty good. I've been using the extension for a few months now and it's my preferred extension over others that I've used. But I'm under the impression that you have to pay for Adguard for Mac and that it costs "Standard license for 1 year costs $19.95. Lifetime license costs $49.95".

Glimmerblocker is basically the same but is a system preference addon and free.

Well thats sneaky, Id installed it and it never mentioned that it was only a trial, and that id have to pay for it.

I pay for all my apps, but i won't be buying this. If they were clear in the first place I may have purchased it, definitely not at this price though.

I wish Little Snitch incorporated privacy and ad-blocking, Its such a great app.

Reinstalled Adblock and Ghostery

Yes when I installed Adguard for Mac I had no idea you had to buy a license either. The windows version clearly states 14 day trial but the Mac version mentions nothing about that. The only way I found out was by looking up Adguard for Mac on Macupdate website. If you use Ghostery be sure to look at this and opt out in its settings.

I should clarify, the adguard extension is free. I'm not referencing the application.

Yes, that's what I'm using now. And I think it does just as good if not slightly better than the other extensions and causes slightly list lag Safari and Firefox for me. It just won't run on El Capitan which the OP was referring to. But they plan to have one ready for El Capitan hopefully by the time is released according to their blog. I posted a link to their blog about it earlier in this thread.

That's strange because I've been using it on El Capitan without issue.

Really? Cool. I had not tried it on El Capitan because they mention in their blog it does not work as expected.
Next time I boot into El Capitan I will give it a try.

Thanks. Do you find them to be superior to Adblock as well?

Yes. I used AdBlock for years, but I kept seeing YouTube ads too often. The problem with uBlock, however, is that it hasn’t been updated in quite a while. The uBlock Origin fork is not available for Safari, but it is the more up to date version of uBlock.

OK, thanks. Yes, I've also used Adblock for year, and I've mostly been happy with it, but if there's something better out there, I want to give it a shot. Just installed uBlock (not Origin), and I'm taking it out for a spin.
