Anyone know a way to keep Safari from instantly crashing? Worked fine when I first installed the Big Sur beta but now I’m forced to use Chrome as my browser. Thanks

On DP3 Safari would crash for me every time I opened the app or a new blank tab. Went away for me with DP4, although Safari crashing randomly is my most common defect. I uninstalled AdGuard's Safari extension and it seemed to help some, but not entirely.

I’m not running any extensions at all and it crashes so fast, the app barely even flashes an outline. Then the crash report window appears. I tried holding down SHIFT while launching and I’ve rebooted to reset NVRAM. Nothing has helped

Same here. But Safari not only crashes but freezes, can't force quit and macOS freezes as well. Using Firefox not an option, crashes all the time as well. Seems like a lot of work still to do before out-of-beta. I keep sending reports to Apple, it might help.

I have the same issue - Safari was the biggest reason for me to jump on the public beta, for now using microsoft Edge. Ah well, I was using Edge on Catalina as well 🙄🥴

I think I fixed the problem. After reading some other threads in the developers forum, something on my Start page must have been causing the issue. I was able to launch Safari by typing a URL in the Spotlight search field and once safari launched, it stayed open. I then went into safari preferences and set my start page to an empty page. Same for a new page for a new tab. Seems to work fine now :)

The trace indicates that the starting point is a menu event, what did you do, if anything?

Then apparently core graphics is accessing non existant memory when trying to create an image?

Have you reported this to apple?

Reported to Apple yes, I tried to open a new window - so your analysis of menu-event as starting point could be accurate.
Will continue to monitor and report and hope it gets fixed sooner than later.

thx.

Same problems here, but in my case at least, I found that by using the Safari Technology Preview, the freeze and crash issue has all but vanished.
This is with 2 extensions enabled as I had with the regular Safari browser; Honey and Duck Duck Go.

Give it a shot if you haven't and have been having so much trouble that you were almost afraid to surf the web.

May be too early to ask - but for people who have installed the developer 5, is safari working fine or is it still randomly crashing the entire system ? thx.

In my first few hours on the build with perhaps only 45 minutes of safari time, I had one freeze that forced a manual power down to recover the system. This was after installation of db5 prior to a restart/shut down which I personally like to do after it has run several hours or overnight.
So not promising here just yet, but if after several days it holds up then I will post again if others have not beat me to the punch.

16610.1.25.5.1 is the version of Safari Tech Preview that was more stable for me with far fewer incidents. I am still at only one problem with the new Safari included in the DB5 package.

No issues here with Safari on a 13" rMBP Late 2013. The only issue I have is a big stutter when I enter or exit fullscreen mode in a Youtube video.

So far, Safari does seem to be much better than before; Just couple of hours of usage, no crash as yet.
Lets hope this was the update I was looking for Safari.

Safari was good from last few days and suddenly, it has started to freeze the system again; No new software has been installed,
Is Safari stable for others ?

Again, the crash has happened twice when trying to open news related websites ..
