hello all,
I have decided to stop using Chrome and switch entirely to Safari.

however, the following no longer seems to work
- New emails no longer creates notifications (I have enabled it in Gmail settings)
- Clicking on email links opens up Mail.app (mailto)

I am using the
latest stable Safari
latest stable Mountain Lion update

any ideas?

I am not 100% certain but if you are not using Chrome I think the only option for notifications and mailto when using only Safari for Gmail is to use the Gmail Notifier: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/10966?hl=en

I have not used the Gmal Notifier.

I use Safari with Gmail as my home tab and always leave it open when I am using Safari. I have the Gmail app on my iPhone and the tone from that serves to notify me of new emails. For mailto, another option is to set up the Mail app and use it just for mailto (I use it just for sending photos from iPhoto and leave it off the rest of the time).

thanks for the response. I tried downloading Gmail notifier but for some reason, it just isn't downloading on my Safari

I just tried it and had the same problem. I found one item in the Gmail Help forums that said to change security settings to allow application downloads from anywhere but I tried that and it didn't help.

I would love to use Chrome instead but it switches on the dedicated GFX on my 2010 MBP :/
