Safari Downloads Files!!!

I don't know if this is new but I just noticed this now, I was trying to download a file with Safari and this appeared:

Now, I haven't updated to 4.3, still on 4.2.1, and my iPad is jailbroken, but I have never seen this before. I even uninstalled the Safari Download Manager from Cydia and tried again and it worked.

Really, since when? I hadn't notice this before, and I searched and found no reference to it, I even found a discussion on the Apples forums where the last post from yesterday said it wasn't possible to download files.

Yes you can. You can download to air sharing, dropbox, or open in an app.That is, i believe, downloading.

Through Safari? And what I wish we could do is download any type of file even if the iPad can't read the type and take it from the iPad as if it's a flash drive when we sync with our Macs.

If you have a file manager like air sharing, or airsharing, then you can download to those. Works like this...

No idea, i've always had one. Not sure if you can, as you'd have no way to access it. I could be wrong.

It's done this since approximately forever. Actually, it might have been added with 4.0, but I can't remember. BTW, add a 'g' to the beginning of the url of the file you want to download, as in 'ghttp://...'. I find that to be more reliable.

So what happens if you try to download something with no file manager?

iOS apps can register file types that they support. If you don't have an app installed which registers itself as supporting the type of file you want to download, you'll probably just get a message like "Safari cannot download this file."

Can you download mp3s and open them in the iPod app?
Can you download AVIs and open them in VLC?

No, you can;t download an MP3 and open in ipod. As for VLC, not sure.
