Safari email attachment crash

I'm trying to attach a file to an email using Safari on a Macbook Pro. Every time I try to attach a file whether it's on my AOL, Gmail or Yahoo account, Safari closes out right away. Tried emptying cache, removing all website data, rebooted the laptop.

Does the issue persist on different Internet browsers? When you restarted the machine, did you ensure reopen windows when logging back in was disabled/unticked? Have you updated to the latest OS?

The machine is updated to the latest El Capitan version as is Safari. The problem does NOT happen in Google Chrome or the Apple Mail app.

Any Safari Extensions installed?

norton antivirus, but disabled it and still not working

This one would be easy to test in a new User Account.

solved it: changed the view of the attachment popup window.
