Safari freezes

I used to like using Safari, but my patience is wearing thin. It does not matter what website I am on - even amazon then to the deal section, it sometimes brings out the beach ball and not to buy one, but the annoying spinning ball. Happens on other sites also. End up having to click it on the dock then quit. Programs are up to date. Clearing history has not helped. Apple will not let you remove Safari, unless there is a trick out there. I know I can use firefox like I am now, Safari is still spinning. Still old habits are hard to break. Can anyone provide a link to directions on how to fix this?

ms office live (off)
mining media engine (off)
quicktime (off)
silverlight (off)

Just turned the ones listed off. Maybe this will work?

I suggest your download and run the free MalwareBytes for Mac: https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/mac/

Mining Media Engine looks like malware to me.

Thanks. Just did it. Hopefully it works.
When I go into plugin settings the ones that I turned off are still there, but turned off. How do I get them off the list completely?

1. Quit Safari.
   
   
2. Locate the plug-in. Plug-ins are usually installed in one of these folders:
   
   /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
   
   or
   
   ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
   
   To do this, click the desktop to make sure you are in Finder, then pull down the Go menu to Go To Folder.
   
   copy and paste the following line in to the box and hit return:
   
   /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
   
   then delete the plugins.
3. Repeat the above, but this copying and pasting
   
   ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
   
   into the Go to Folder box.
   
   
4. Reopen Safari.

Thanks John - should I delete all the plug ins from my list or just some of them? if just some - which do I trash? Thanks again for your time.

I would take them all out and put them into a folder on my desktop rather than deleting them. Then you could always add one back in if needed, although you would probably be better off download fresh copies as needed. Try to be careful about what plugins you install.
