Upgraded to El Capitan last week but having real issues with Safari on my iMac 3.4GHz Intel Core i7. We have 50 M download speeds but when trying to load pages have the following issues:
  • Type in address and press return and then nothing happens. No progress bar appears. The page just hangs.
  • A page will start to load but then will have many of the items missing or incorrectly positioned on the page.
  • Will get a message say the web page server isn't responding.

I have an old MacBook Pro running the same upgrade, on the same network and when I got to exactly the same pages they load up easily.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is it possible to reinstall Safari from scratch?

Try creating a new (temp) admin account then login to that account and see if the problem persists. If that fixes it, it means you have something like an extension or utility installed under your account causing the problem.

Weird, I was having issues with things like instagram (in Safari) not loading images...logged out and into a guest account and it was working fine. Logged back in to my normal account and they are now showing up again.

In fact everything felt smoother/faster in my guest account. What would be some good things to look at if my Guest account is working slicker than my normal account?

A good tool to help with the is the app Etrecheck. It will create a report showing all hidden launch and startup items then you can use that report to start removing things that cause trouble. You can post the report here if you like for us to help you. The report is anonymized.
