I am using 9.1.1 on El Capitan 10.11.5. I regularly see Safari use very high levels of cpu, causing my MBP (late 2013) to get hot and the fans to sound like it is about to take off... I have iStat, and it shows Safari using 300 - 400 % and kernel_task also very high on a regular basis. Tried resetting the SMC, no effect. If I shut down Safari and reopen the same web pages, things are back to normal for a while. The only extension I have installed is 1Password. Any thoughts on what is happening? thanks in advance....

Safari high CPU usage?

Yeah, I am 'assuming' that flash is the problem. Have started trying other browsers and noticed it occasionally occurs on them also (Firefox and Opera). Always paired with high kernel usage, so I expect that is what is happening. Usually I can close the browser and reopen it, then go back to that page and the problem goes away though, so not sure why it only happens 'sometimes' and not consistently.
This has started happening to me from time to time again too, usually if I have a load of tabs open but not always. I've found that even scrolling through ebay for a time can cause the issue.
Downloaded the Safari Technology Preview 9.1.2 the other day but it still happens.
Last time it got bad I did the re-boot in Safe Mode trick and that seemed to help.
