Sounds like you have Safari sync turned on in iCloud and it is pushing the synced history back in.

Try opening Safari and hit option-command-2 to bring up history. Then select an entry and hot command-a to select all then hit the delete key. Look up top to make sure you got all the dates. Just leave Safari running a bit so the deletions get synced. See if that works.

hi thanks for that ,but it seems to be a problem with iCloud on the mac as i signed out from safari on iCloud then deleted history from my iPhone then signed back in and relaunched safari and the history was gone and never appeared again so fingers crossed its fixed now ,but just as a test i build up a new history on safari then tried to delete it but it reappeared after a few seconds so i don't know it thats normal or perhaps a bug ,many thanks
