Is it possible to have safari always in fullscreen mode? whenever I exit it I always have to put it back in fullscreen?

It works for me.
How are you exiting Safari? Red button, Safari>Quit, ESC....?
 
I never quit safari. Dont see the need. When in full screen just 3 finger swipe to another screen.
 
Try going to Settings > General and unchecking "Close Windows when quitting an app." I think this did it for me. Although Safari will always open with whatever tab(s) you had from the previous session.

Sort of a drag really. There are lots of times I want to work with another browser. For example, I will be using Safari, and then another task becomes necessary, so I open Firefox, and use that. Come back to Safari and continue what was being done there. Need to have the dock open to do this easily.

Easy to turn off the full screen, in VIEW. Or you can use the keyboard ^commandF.

I bet the next Safari version has a way to switch this feature on and off.
