Safari keeps freezing up and is failing to load webpages even on the simplest pages. It even froze up on macrumors today. I am not running any installer and have the latest iPhone software update. Is this happening to anyone else?

same thing for me, it is bloody annoying, even with loading google it crashes, its pathetic and its a shame because i quite like using the browser but come on it crashes for any little thing and with more complex and picture heavy pages it gets stuck and crashes everytime. It is running latest firmware and has never ever been unlocked or jailbroken.

Is this happening on WI-FI or EDGE?
What I have experienced is that sometimes on EDGE it just quits but then I access it again and works fine afterwards, but this shouldn't be happening anyway.

Open Safari and then hold the Home button until Safari quits. Doing this kind of resets Safari.

Give it a try.
