I am not sure if there is a way to revert, this change. My favorite bar on my safari on my MacBook Air m1 has always been above open tabs, now, tabs are opened above the favorite bar. its terrible, safari must of updated automatically, is there a way to change this? google doesnt seem to know yet as its brand new. today is first day I saw this change.

You can change it back in settings.

There is an option to move the tabs around, but regardless the bookmark toolbar will appear below the tabs. The only option available is to combine the tabs+URL bar or not.

I also hate the new safari redesign. It's poorly thought out from a UI perspective. The hilighted tab is a darker color than the non-active tabs, exactly the opposite how window background shading works in the rest of Mac OS. I can never figure out which tab I have active at the moment. There is also no other visual indicator (as there was in the previous version) of which tab is attached to the open window. Bah.

Ok, I was wrong. I don't use safari and when I do, I don't have favorite bar enabled. So I thought switching back to separate tabs instead of compact, would fully restore the old layout.
