A geographical oddity
Yesterday afternoon, Safari began to lock up. I hadn't tinkered or just added/run any new apps/settings/bookmarks that might have led to this.

I was in Safari and tried enter a URL. When I selected the appropriate box, as soon as I touched the keyboard, Safari froze. Pressing the home button took me home, and selecting Safari worked. Sort of. It would open Safari, and the page I was on would reload. If I tried going to a URL again, it would freeze. I went out again, and tried the search box - same result of freezing. After force restarting, Safari opened by going directly to my bookmarks rather than just giving me a blank page. If I closed that window and tried to enter a URL or search, freeze again immediately. If I selected a bookmark, it would open.

I reset the phone and got the same results. I tried doing a restore, and again got the same results. Sort of. After the restore, Safari worked at first. I went to bad and this morning Safari began crashing again. I called APLCARE and have two appointments for tomorrow (I made two since I'm not sure where in town I'll be when). Phone guy said it sounded like a hardware issue, but he also didn't know about the iPhone availability chart - he wasn't sure if the stores could do a swap since he had "no way to know if they are in stock."

I just cleared my cache/cookies/history, and Safari is working again, but I'm waiting for another fail.

I'm just wondering if this has happened to anybody else, and what you did to correct it - was clearing the cache enough, is there another fix, or should I go to an appointment and press for a swap?

Well, until I got to your last paragraph, I was going to suggest clearing the cache. So, if that doesn't work, you'll need to go to the store. I've never had that problem, or if pages weren't loading, it was due to the network. However, never had a freeze.

Ditto, I was gonna suggest clearing the cache, but apparently it's not working for you...hmm.

Are you running any other apps alongside safari?

Either way, if all else fails, replace the iPhone.

I guess my post was a little twisty. Clearing the cache did work, I'm just waiting for Safari to fail again.

Just mail. It's hard to tell what else runs in the background (I have push notifications turned on for AP, for example, but I am not clear on how 3.0 delegates running the notice system without running the base app ).

Yeah, I know. I just don't want to. A veritable plethora of Apple Stores near me, but I'm just too lazy to go to one and I hate the crowds that make the Apple store no longer my favorite place to shop - oh to go back to the early 2000s and the casually-enjoyable-friendly-not-mobbed-and-painful trips to the Apple Store...
