Safari Malware

Hello All,

I don't know if I posted in the right section.
The issue I'm having is that my daughter seems to have unwantedly installed the "weknow.ac" malware. I've tried erasing history, but I still can't erase the home page in "preferences". Its locked the homepage to always go to it.

Run Malwarebytes, then start a fresh Safari session by holding Shift then opening Safari. You should be able to change the homepage after.

Wow, you can almost get this Weknow thing just looking for how to remove it!

As an add-on to the above, go to Safari Preferences-Security. Under Search, make sure the drop down says something legit, like Google. Then click Privacy-Web Site Data. My advice is "Remove All" but if you want to try one at a time - your choice. You will probably find weknow.ac there.

Sometimes these programs install a login item, to help them reincarnate after you try to get rid of them. Malwarebytes should discover this, but if not, report back.

If Mr_Brightsides suggestion does not work, check in System Preferences for a section called "Profiles". It will be on the right side of the same row with Users and Groups, Parental Controls, etc.

Profiles are not there by default and most legitimate SW will not install a profile. If any are there, remove them. Unless the computer is owned and administrated by a school or business, then the profile may be legit.

Unfortunately it didn't word for me, I ran Malwarebytes as well. Ofcourse I had to google it and I tried out the instruction from a few links that I found. So far no success. If anyone has new ideas, please let me know.
