Sorry I’m late to the party. But I just updated to iOS 15 last night because of some fuctionality issues, and boy I regret it. The new safari with the address bar at the bottom...what in the world were they thinking? Please change it back, Apple!

You can change it back in settings ?

Initially I thought it was stupid, but after a while you get used to it and it does seem to make more sense being at the bottom.
Thanks, didn’t know that! But, I will give it a chance for a while. If it grew on you, maybe it will be the same for me ?

To me, Safari sucks in other ways, and the position of the address bar isn’t one of them. Granted, I use iPad majority of my time now and iOS Safari change doesn’t really affect me much (iPadOS change affects me more), but still.

I don’t know what they have changed within Safari for iOS and macOS, but it’s definitely not so stable like with in iOS 14. Freezes, pages loading very slow.

You can change this easily in Settings --> Safari. Under "Tabs" section you select what you prefer. I admit it take some time for me to get used to it, but I am not going back to the TOP button view for sure.

Hmm, that is weird, it never happened to me after GM release and honestly can't think of one case when Safari freezes on iOS 15. But I agree, performance could use some tuning, especially between sliding through different tabs. Is it randomly freezing or while browsing specific pages?

Some specific pages but extensions could be the reason too

The Grammarly extension was causing page freezes and general Safari lockups for me. Disabling it solved those issues.

Now I have another. Private Browsing is saving history. Can anyone else confirm this? Open tabs in Private and then check your History. In my case all my Private Browsing history is there and persists through tab close, Safari close and an iPhone shutdown/reset. Is this a bug in 15.2?

Ah ok, I do not have any extensions on my Safari app.

As for the history issues, I do not have faced anything like it, however I am on 15.3 beta1 and haven't been checking at the history in anonymous tabs before.

Check setting to make sure you haven't set tabs to close automatically after a period.

For your lost tabs, maybe see if they are in history?

It’s on manual closing, and nope nothing in history :( my notes all disappeared too but i talked to IT and made me reset my phone from the last backup which was dec 31st… so everything from jan 1st to last night is gone

i like the idea of the address bar being at the bottom instead - it makes alot more sense unless you have super long fingers. Having said that, I did set it back to the top for now despite being harder to reach, because i have automatic finger memory and struggling to get used to the change. Apple give us the choice so can't complain too much on this one...

I fail to understand what's awful about the adress bar at the bottom? It's easier to reach and you cah switch qucker and eaiser between tabs.
It's awful on the bottom because it's awful on the bottom.

Do you have an ad blocker?

IOS 15 is horrible in general because I heard the IOS tracks your movements and tracks where you go and if you go say to the DARK WEB, it too can track you. No thank you, I want my freedom not slavery.
What on earth are you talking about?

Yes. Adblock pro.
What iPhone are you using? I also am using Adblock Pro. In my case I have not noticed any freezes or lagging in Safari in general. If you are using more then one extension maybe it is one of the other ones that could be the issue.

I have more extensions. Yes. I have the 13 Pro Max. My dad has the SE 2 and has the same experience. Only one adblocker. No extensions.

On my devices I’m not seeing the Safari problems @Blue Hawk is noting. I’m using ad blockers (plural) and a VPN on my iPhone7, my iPadPro (4th gen), an iPadAir, and even an iPhone SE (1st gen). Don’t know what the difference is, but perhaps a call to Apple support is in order?
