Safari on iPad needs keyboard shortcuts.

So I had my wireless Apple keyboard paired to my iPad last night. The iPad was standing up on the coffee table, I was on the couch a few feet away. It would have been cool except there is no way to jump to the address bar from the keyboard. So you have to tap the address bar, then key in the address on the keyboard. Seems inefficient and clunky. Some of the keyboard shortcuts at the top of the keyboard such as brightness and volume controls work, so it should definitely be feasible.

Also having the arrow keys scroll would be nice. As well as a button to go back to the home screen. Anyone else agree? Using either the dock or the wireless you should be able to do basic navigation I feel.

I agree. I haven't used a keyboard with the iPad yet, but that seems like an obvious thing to have.

The other thing I'd like is to be able to open links in my bookmarks bar in new tabs like you can with regular hyperlinks on a page.

Totally agree with OP. Got my bt keyboard tonight, first thing i tried was Command-L in Safari. No dice.
I'm hoping it's in 4.0 but i'm not too optimistic.

Btw-Southpark was sold out of ipads tonight.

Couldn't agree more.

Command-L in Safari for starters, let alone forward and back arrows and/or brackets, plus a pile of other shortcuts that I hardly ever consider consciously but use regularly all day long.

Reminds me of the lack of copy n' paste in the first iPhone OS -- naysayers were poo-pooing while true believers were pleading with everyone to hold tight, and to everyone's surprise the fanboys were right.

Anybody else here cynical enough to think that Apple purposely restricts certain basic functions so that when they do eventually (finally) enable them they're automatically given a top spot in the news cycle?

Lawdy knows press releases are a helluva lot cheaper to produce than commercials . . .
