I am guilty of leaving safari tabs open for weeks, but ever since Sonoma I now have to reboot my iMac every day or safari just opens up blank pages. I will have tabs open, and after a day I won't be able to open any more pages. Safari just goes to a blank screen. The only fix seems to be restarting.

In activity monitor I will see all the memory be using by web addresses/pages. There will be a little shield next to the web pages.

What is that little shield icon supposed to be?

Are there any setting to fix this memory issue?

One thing I tried a few times when my iMac was throttling was shutting down safari, it would free up the memory, then opening safari back up and selecting open tabs from last session.
